Tomorrowland History


Tomorrowland is an EDM (Electronic Dance Music) festival held at Boom, Belgium. This event was first organized in 2005 and now this gigantic event was considered as one of the biggest and most considerable music events held in the world. This event now expanded to two weeks and its tickets get sold in a glimpse.

Tomorrowland 2005


The first time this gigantic event was held on 14 August 2005 in Boom, Belgium. The event was organized by ID&T, Manu Beers, and Michiel Beers. The artist included Technoboy, Armin van Buuren, Cor Fijneman, Erwin Tang Yew Hon, Yves Deruyter, Push (M.I.K.E.), Yoji Biomehanika and Coone.

Tomorrowland 2006


The second edition of the festival was held on 30 July 2006 in Boom, Belgium. Hosted  Axwell,  David Guetta, Marco Bailey, Fred Baker, Armin van Buuren, DJ Zany and Ruthless. The producer and Dj Paul Oakenfold was also introduced on the poster but canceled a bit before the event, as he was on a tour with Madonna. The Anthem of Tomorrowland 2006 was produced by Emajy and performed by him with The Atari Babies on the main stage.

Tomorrowland 2007


The 3rd edition of Tomorrowland was held on 28,29 July 2007 in Boom, Belgium, and lasted for two days 1st time in the history of Tomorrowland. Armin Van Buuren was there and Jana is underrated.

Tomorrowland 2008


The 4th edition of Tomorrowland was held on 26,27 July 2008. More than 50,000 people visit Tomorrowland and 100Djs take part in the event for the first time.

Tomorrowland 2009


ID&T led Tomorrowland fifth edition to even more venues, one ski, and much more. Sun has included an "I Love the 90's" stage, where artists such as SASH, Push, and Natural Born Deejays were present from the dance scene. La Rocca performed live at the Tomorrowland for the first time. The momentous act on the main stage was Moby. Tomorrowland 2009 was held on 25, 26 July 2009. In this edition, Tomorrowland used a theme for the first time and attracted more than 90,000 visitors.

Tomorrowland 2010


This edition was evidence of Tomorrowland's success and popularity as all the tickets were sold before the event and over 2 days more than 120,000 people spectate the event. The official Anthem of this edition “Tomorrow/Give Into The Night” was made by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike Dada Life, and Tara McDonald. This song was performed twice on the main stage after Swedish House Mafia
The track was made by Dada Life Like Mike & Dimitri Vegas and the lyrics and vocal melody was written and recorded by Tara McDonald. This song boosts Tomorrowland standing in the Belgian commercial charts to number 5 and this is the most sold song for Tomorrowland's to date. This time Tomorrowland used the theme of “Zon (Sun)” and this edition is nominated for the Best Music Event by the International Dance Music Awards in 2011.

Tomorrowland 2011


In this edition, Tomorrowland expanded to 3 days and held on 22, 23,24 July 2011. This time the theme was “The tree of life” and the Anthem was “The Way We See The World” by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike featuring Nervo and Afrojack. This time the event was sold out in just a few days after official pre-sale and had over 180,000 visitors from all around the world.  Nervo, Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, Tiësto, Avicii, Carl Cox, Hardwell, Raven Tensnake, Laidback Luke, Brodinski, Juanma Tudon, Paul van Dyk, De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, Mike Matthews, and dozens of others performed. This edition was voted for the Best Music Event by the International Dance Music Awards for the first time in 2012.

Tomorrowland 2012


This was the 7 edition of Tomorrowland which was held on 27, 28, 29 July at the De Schorre, a provincial recreation area in Boom, Belgium, 32 kilometers north of Brussels, and 16 kilometers south of Antwerp. The line-up consisted of 400 DJs, such as Ferry Corsten, Armin van Buuren, Avicii, Skrillex, Skazi, Marco Bailey, David Guetta, Hardwell, Nervo, Swedish House Mafia, Steve Aoki, Juanma Tudon, Afrojack, The Bloody Beetroots, Carl Cox, Martin Solveig, Paul van Dyk,  Chuckie, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Fatboy Slim, and Pendulum playing on fifteen stages each day. This time Tomorrowland attracted more than 180,000 people from over 75 countries in the world with 35,000 of them staying in Dreamville. Because of the tremendous success of Tomorrowland and the reality that it is the Belgian Festival. Organizers of Tomorrowland give Belgian an absolute chance on 24 March with (80,000 of the 180,000 tickets). These 80,000 tickets were sold in less than a day. More than 2,000,000 people were waiting online for the pre-sale tickets of the event. Official worldwide pre-sale of tickets starts on April 7, 2012. All 100,000 tickets were sold in less than 43 minutes. In inclusion to regular tickets, Tomorrowland had an agreement with Brussels airlines to provide a special traveled package from 15 cities all around the world. Other spotlights of the event were Cloud Rider, the highest Ferris wheel of Europe and the fact that Tomorrowland organized 25 airlines to bring visitors to the festival. The festival Anthem was  “Tomorrow Changed Today” by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Afrojack, and the theme of the festival was “The Book of Wisdom”. Tomorrowland 2012 edition won the DJ Award for the Best International Dance Music Festival. In 2013 once more the festival won the International Dance Music Awards for the Best Music Event.

Tomorrowland 2013


Tomorrowland 2013 was held on 26 27 28, July 2013 and attracted more than 180,000 people at De Schorre, a provincial recreation area in Boom, Belgium, 32 kilometers north of Brussels, and 16 kilometers south of Antwerp. Tomorrowland again provides its Global Journey packages with Brussels Airlines which had 140 extra flights from 67 different cities around the world transporting festival-goers from 214 different countries to Boom, Belgium. This time the Anthem was “Chattahoochee” by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike featuring Maarten Vorwerk. The theme of this edition was “The Arising of Life” and the visitors saw the performances from  Armin van Buuren, Axwell,  Hardwell, David Guetta, Afrojack, and Sebastian Ingrosso.

Tomorrowland 2014


Tomorrowland completed its 10 Years in 2014 to celebrate this memorable moment and to meet the demands for tickets. Tomorrowland organized over two weekends.18–20 and 25–27 July 2014. Line-up of the second week is much similar to the line-up of the first weekend. In this edition, MTV state that it would produce MTV World stage special for promoting performances from Tomorrowland (to be aired in August 2014) and they also announced to produce a documentary on Tomorrowland 10th anniversary. On April 16 Tomorrowland and Composer Hans Zimmer proclaim that they merge forces for producing a classical hymn that will premier during the 10th anniversary of Tomorrowland. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike was responsible for the Anthem of Tomorrowland, Working with W & W for the song "Waves". The theme of this edition was “The key to Happiness”. More than 360,000 visitors spectate Tomorrowland 2014. This edition also won International Dance Music Award for Best Global Festival during the ceremony on March 2015.

Tomorrowland 2015


Tomorrowland 2015 was held on 24, 25, and 26 July 2015 and spectated by 180,000 visitors. Performers included Hardwell, David Guetta, Avicii, Armin van Buuren, Tiësto, and Carl Cox. The theme of this edition “The Secret Kingdom of Melodia”. The readers of DJ Magazine voted Tomorrowland 2015 the World's Best Festival, and International Dance Music Awards awarded the Tomorrowland 2015 the Best Global Festival for the fifth consecutive year.

Tomorrowland 2016


Tomorrowland 2016 was held on 22, 23, and 24 July. at De Schorre, a provincial recreation area in Boom, Belgium. The theme for this edition was “The Elixir of Life”. performers included Martin Garrix, The Chainsmokers, Axwell Λ Ingrosso,  Tiësto, and number one DJs Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike.

Tomorrowland 2017


The date of this edition is announced by organizers in January 2017, and scheduled for 21-23 and 28-30 July. This time a record number of tickets was sold. The theme for this edition was “Amicorum Spectaculum” and this is the first time Tomorrowland expanded to 2 weeks since their 10 anniversary. The festival saw an extensive increase in the number of performers to perform on 16 stages. The festival was nominated by the European Festivals Awards and the Electronic Music Awards for World's Best Festival. The festival was also visited by Queen consort Matilda and King Philippe. The statement was released by Armin van Buuren and David Guetta regarding festival achievements.

Tomorrowland 2018


The 14th edition of Tomorrowland was spectated by 400,000 people. It was the second year of the festival to run across two weekends. The festival was held on 20-22 July and 27-29 July. The tickets for both weeks were sold in less than 1hr. Mainstage performers included Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, and Hardwell. The theme for this year was “The Story of Planaxis”. This audition also saw a lot of Avicii tributes to honor the death of the Swedish DJ 3 months before the festival. Avicii's songs "Wake Me Up" and "Levels" came second and eighth respectively in this edition most played songs. Tributes to the DJ came from Nicky Romero, Axwell Λ Ingrosso, Don Diablo, and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. Digital spy states this event as "the most elaborate festival on earth"

Tomorrowland 2019


15 anniversary of Tomorrowland was held on 19-21 and 26-28 July, for its 15 anniversary Tomorrowland used his 2012 Theme “The Book of Wisdom” for this edition too. Performers include Armin van Buuren, The Chainsmokers, and David Guetta return.  Steve Angello's declare in the autumn of the previous year that the Swedish House Mafia would play at the festival "by any means necessary", that rumors get stronger when the group’s sign “3 dots” were appeared on the festival line-up. At the last moment, three dots were announced to be 3 are Legend. This assists many people to believe that the group was pulled out at the last moment. On the other hand, Steve Angello, and Axwell claimed that the group was never booked for the festival.
